Becoming A Member

The Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra welcomes young musicians with a dedicated interest in orchestral music and ensemble playing. Membership in FRYO is open to students in the upper elementary grades through high school who have played their instrument for at least one year. Students must audition to become members.

FRYO offers students the opportunity to play a varied musical repertoire in four performance groups: advanced full orchestra, intermediate full orchestra, and beginning wind and string ensembles. Master classes, sectional coaching and chamber ensembles are part of our program.

Rehearsals: FRYO rehearses on Monday evenings during the school year at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, located at the corner of 2nd Street and Fairview Avenue, across from the Schifferstadt Museum. The Concert Strings rehearse from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., the Wind Ensemble from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Symphonia from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and the Philharmonic from 6:45 to 9:00 p.m.

Tuition for the 2009-2010 Season is $275/student, and $250 for additional children in the same family. A limited number of need-based scholarships for tuition are available. To sustain the financial requirements of the organization and keep the tuition low, families are expected to participate in fundraising activities.

Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra is a non-profit, 501c3 organization supported in part by the Frederick Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.
